What Is Administrative Proceedings Insurance?

Administrative Proceedings Insurance provides legal and financial assistance to individuals and businesses involved in administrative proceedings, including audits, investigations, or enforcement actions by government agencies.  This kind of insurance is most popular among those in regulated industries, like healthcare.

The insurance can cover legal expenses, expert witness costs, and other related costs.  It may also provide reimbursement of fines and other expenses incurred from the proceedings.

Who Should Get Administrative Proceedings Insurance?

Doesn’t Medical Malpractice Insurance Cover This?

Generally speaking, most medical malpractice insurance policies include sublimits for administrative proceedings, but they tend to be very small and would not adequately cover a significant charge.  Typical sublimits for administrative proceedings are $25,000 per claim/$25,000 aggregate.  Because of this, we recommend that all healthcare practitioners get a stand alone Administrative Proceedings policy with limits of $1M per claim/$1M aggregate.

While most individuals don’t think they will face an administrative proceeding, it should be noted that if they do, costs can be exorbitant.  Cases can drag on for multiple years, can involve substantial fines, attorney fees, and/or expert witness costs.

How Much Does It Cost?

Is It Hard to Get?

Administrative Proceedings Insurance typically costs $2,000-4,000/yr, depending on your situation.

Luckily, getting coverage is easy.  Typically, the application is only about 1 page long.  And, at Nexus Insurance Services, we have access to several carriers who can provide this kind of coverage.
